BIOGRAPHY

Eng. Dr. Tulinave B. Mwamila is a civil and water resources engineer, lecturer, researcher, and currently the Deputy Rector for Academics, Research and Consultancy at the Water Institute (WI), an agency of the Ministry of Water, Tanzania. She has over 15 years of professional experience in engineering, with extensive expertise in rural water supply, water resources management, research, education, and consultancy.

She served as an Engineer with the Ministry of Water for 10 years, contributing significantly to the management and development of rural water supply and sanitation services. At the Water Institute, she provides leadership in training, research, and consultancy aimed at strengthening professional capacity and advancing the water sector.

Dr. Mwamila is a passionate advocate for rainwater harvesting and sustainable water resources management and has published over 15 research articles in this area. Her research interests also include nature-based solutions and indigenous technologies for water resource development and management.

She has served on various professional boards and committees, including the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) Council and Women Chapter, the Engineers Registration Board, the Federation of African Engineering Organizations, and the International Water Association’s Rainwater Harvesting Management Specialist Group.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Mwamila is deeply committed to STEM empowerment, mentorship, and youth development. Since 2017, she has actively supported IET Women Chapter programmes that inspire and guide children and young people at primary, secondary, and university levels to pursue STEM careers. She also mentors aspiring engineers through the IET Student Chapter at the Water Institute.

She currently serves as Chief Editor of the Journal of Water Resources, Engineering, Management and Policy (JWEMPO) and is a Co-Founder of the NTWAM Water & Environment Initiative, promoting water and environmental sustainability while advancing STEM empowerment through mentorship and internship programmes.
