Eng. Hamida Dhamir Hamad | Biomedical Engineer & Innovator 🩺⚙️
Eng. Hamida Dhamir Hamad is a Tanzanian Biomedical Engineer and emerging innovator with a strong passion for developing affordable, practical engineering solutions that improve healthcare and the quality of life for people with disabilities.
She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (NTA Level 8) from the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), following her Diploma in biomedical Equipment Engineering. Her engineering journey combines technical expertise, innovation, leadership, communication, teaching, and teamwork.
Hamida has actively participated in engineering exhibitions and innovation platforms, including TAWECE, Engineering Day, VETA exhibitions, and DIT Sabasaba exhibitions. Her innovations include a Medicine Reminder Machine, a Paralytic Level Machine, and an Orthotic Standing & Mobility Device for Children with Paraplegia.
Her orthotic innovation is designed to help children with paraplegia achieve safe standing and assisted mobility, while supporting physiotherapy, improving blood circulation and bone health, and reducing complications associated with prolonged wheelchair use. The solution targets physiotherapy and rehabilitation centres, disability care centres, and NGOs, demonstrating her commitment to inclusive and accessible healthcare technology.
Her innovation achievements include Best Project Award from the Association of Medical Engineers and Technicians (AMETT) in 2023 and 2nd Runner-Up in the Technology & Innovation Category at the Tanzania Muslim Awards (TAMEYA) in 2024.
Beyond engineering, Hamida is passionate about professional ethics, leadership, continuous learning, social interaction, travelling, reading, and community-focused innovation.
